PROJECT DISCOVERY

DEFINE THE PROBLEM BEFORE YOU BUILD THE SOLUTION

Most failed data projects don't fail because of technology. They fail because the problem wasn't properly understood before delivery started.

Our discovery engagements give you a clear, shared understanding of where you are, where you need to get to and what it will take to get there. We bring regulatory, data governance and stakeholder knowledge to the scoping process so that constraints specific to financial services are surfaced in Week One, and not discovered mid-build when they're expensive to fix.

THE PROJECT DISCOVERY PROCESS

Stakeholder workshops

We facilitate structured sessions with your business, technology, and risk teams to align on objectives, surface competing priorities, and build shared ownership of the initiative before a single line of code is written.

Current-state assessment

We map your existing data landscape — systems, pipelines, models, governance, and pain points — so that the path forward is grounded in reality, not assumptions.

Technical architecture: As-is and to-be

We document your current architecture and design a target state that accounts for your technology constraints, regulatory requirements, and growth trajectory. This becomes the blueprint for delivery.

Gap analysis

We identify the specific gaps between current and target state — in data, technology, skills, and process — and prioritise them by business impact and feasibility.

Project charter and Roadmap

We deliver a scoped, costed project charter with a phased roadmap, resource plan, and expected ROI — giving you what you need to secure internal sign-off and move to delivery with confidence.

WHY BEGIN WITH DISCOVERY?

  • De-risk delivery. Projects that start with discovery are scoped against reality, not a proposal deck. Fewer surprises, fewer change requests, less waste.

  • Align stakeholders early. Data initiatives that span business, risk and technology teams fail when those teams aren't aligned. Discovery forces alignment before budgets are committed.

  • Build the business case. A clear charter with costed phases and expected ROI makes it easier to get board or committee approval for the full programme.

HOW IT WORKS

Discovery is typically a 4 – 8 week fixed-scope engagement. We work on-site or hybrid with your team, and you receive all deliverables — architecture documents, gap analysis, project charter — as your property at the end.

Discovery can stand alone or lead directly into a delivery engagement with Ilion. Either way, you walk away with a plan you can act on.
